ANAHEIM, Calif. (July 15, 2015) Demolition is under way for the seventh expansion to the Anaheim Convention Center. CarPark 1 is being demolished to make room for 200,000 square feet of flexible space for exhibits, meetings, and banquets as well as a new 1,350 space parking structure. The expansion project is scheduled for completion in summer 2017.
The demolition of CarPark 1, the dated parking structure area off Katella Avenue, east of the Convention Center Arena, is a multi-step process that began with the removal of interior structure elements and continues with demolition of major concrete walls and parking decks. In the next few weeks, the materials will be compressed, processed and hauled offsite. Nearby residents and businesses may hear some noise during the demolition phase. Normal construction activities will be limited to weekdays 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., and occasional Saturdays from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
There may be intermittent lane closures for delivery of equipment and materials and removal of debris. Residents, businesses and commuters should follow the directions of traffic control signage and personnel during heightened construction periods. Hotel Way may be reduced to one vehicular lane intermittently throughout construction. For safety, Hotel Way is closed to pedestrians. Those needing to access Katella Avenue from the Convention Center area will be redirected to Harbor Boulevard or through Arena Plaza. Vehicles that normally access Hotel Way from east bound Katella Avenue are encouraged to turn right on Harbor Boulevard and continue south to Convention Center Way where they may turn right and continue west to the Convention Center and Hilton and Sheraton hotel properties.

The Anaheim Convention Center is the largest convention center on the west coast and one of the most popular facilities in the country. The expansion will allow the City to retain conventions that have grown in popularity each year as well as provide space to attract new conventions and events. Without expanding, the City will lose business and revenue.
Located in the heart of the Anaheim Resort District, the Anaheim Convention Center is an important enterprise operation the City relies upon to support the General Fund. The Anaheim Resort District provides approximately 50% of the General Fund tax revenues, which in turn provides for vital City services such as Fire, Police, parks and libraries. Additional tax revenue from the expansion is projected to be more than $9 million annually. An estimated 1,860 jobs will be created during construction, and the expansion will support more than 2,000 new jobs annually.
The City appreciates your partnership and patience during this exciting construction project. Please do not hesitate to contact the Expansion Information Line at (714) 765-8914 with any questions.
